About the project

This adaptive re-use of an existing early twentieth century industrial building – a former candy factory – and the addition of a new concrete-framed loft structure are combined to create 153 live/work units. The residential units in this development are grouped around a central landscaped courtyard and an interior walkway on a tight urban site in the west end of Toronto. It also features a beautiful green roof garden on the second level, providing an intimate and exclusive meditative exterior space for its residents.

The character of the existing heavy timber framed structure is highlighted within the existing building, while the new 6-storey structure is clad in brick to harmonize with existing materials. The interiors feature high ceilings, exposed brick, wood beams, open ductwork and original-style rounded windows. The top floor penthouse units have large walk-out terraces, designed to maximize views of the downtown Toronto Skyline, the iconic CN Tower, and Lake Ontario.
